Video Game Advancements (Last post!)

Recently I hooked up my Nintendo 64...and aside from playing tetris alot I took the time to look at all my game systems and noticd how much they've changed over the years...

From top left to bottom right:
Super Nintendo
Sega Genesis
Nintendo 64
PS2
Nintendo Gamecube
XBox360

...That's not all of them, but just based on the controllers you can see how video games have changed.
Also, I would have thought older controllers would be bulkly (like phones were)...but it looks like the opposite this time.

Here's a view with the hand held games:

Top: Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, N64 & Xbox360
Bottom: Game boy, Game boy color, game boy advance, DS & PSP

Notice how the shape of the games changed?

Anyways, that's a visual look at the advancement of video games...From 8bit to the current 3D, videos games will always change!

What's your favorite game/ system?

Mind reading robot teachers

An automated system that detects when online students are distracted in class...
That's pretty interesting. This started at the university of Wisconsin-Madison, when two people wanted to find out wheter a robot could use techniques"real" teachers use to keep students alert.

A quote from the article:
"What do human teachers do and how can we draw on that to build an educational robot that achieves something similar?"

In the end, the robot was programmed and tested...Did it work?

Car parking

Technology & car parking...
Do you remember the movie iRobot? If so can you remember when Will Smith's character parked his car? It was basically flipped over into a wall or floor compartment. Sadly I couldn't find he video clip, so go watch the movie again! lol

Anyways this video I posted below deals with technology & car parking. It's not as eat as iRobot but it could be useful.

Would you park your car this way?

Swarm

What is round, metal & deals with art & techology?

It's called "swarm" (created by the orb swarm team)...They've created metal spheres that move autonomously on their own, while knowing where they are & where to go next...

Basically they are: Mechanical-Kinetic sculptures.

So what about the art part?

ART (lol)

The swarm orbs were tested in New Orleans, November 13th for the American Anthropological Association conference. (That was the result!)

There wasn't a real reason why this was made...The team simply said:
"What can we create that's challenging & creative?"

Cooking robot!

So I've been trying to look for another fairly interesting topic for my blog...I wanted to find something dealing with food & technology and I found something!

I could see people liking the idea of a robot cleaning their house for them, or having a car you just sit in and you're escorted everywhere...but what about cooking?

Yes? No? Yes? Maybe?

This robot is taught how to cook, and a wii remote is used to answer the robots questions!!!

I think it's a neat twist, being able to teach a robot something than having memory installed and expecting the robot to do everything right the 1st time. This is a neat bit of techonology that could (or already is) in the future of kicthens.

Here's a short version of the video:

Electric Town!

Akihabara, Japan...Otherwise known as "Electric Town".

It's called "Electric town" because of the overwhemling (or perfect) amount of electronic shops. Akihabara is ten blocks (or more) of everything you'd need dealing with electronics. It doesn't matter if you're a tech-nerd or IT professional, you'll want to visit ths city!!

Some stores are: Sofmap, Laox, Radio Market & Yodobashi Camera. As for a IT business visits the Akihabara Crossfield is the place to be! Even if you're not able to enjoy Akihabara as a whole, the Crossfield has shops and resturants inside, as well as the conference rooms etc...

(Akihabara Crossfield)

Now...Japan is also known for anime (Japanese animation) and Akihabara is also known as a otaku (Super anime fan) paradise...I'll leave that up to you to research...but I will say that the cafes are like none you've ever seen! lol

Hologram concerts

Holograms are 3D laser photography, making imagery appear "real" even though it's just lights.

It's used on cards, and other printed things giving objects the "rainbow" look (like the back of a cd)

Doing this helps for security reasons, packaging, and othe things like meical records...

The most interesting use of hologram technology is used around the world with concerts!!

With the right step up and use of holograms, you can make anything appear real! Like the GorillaZ (above) and characters (below).

Overall I think it's really cool how hologram technology can be used. It's not just with concerts, even movies use it (wheter or not it's real with them, I don't know).
(Hologram use within movies)
