It's called "Electric town" because of the overwhemling (or perfect) amount of electronic shops. Akihabara is ten blocks (or more) of everything you'd need dealing with electronics. It doesn't matter if you're a tech-nerd or IT professional, you'll want to visit ths city!!
Some stores are: Sofmap, Laox, Radio Market & Yodobashi Camera. As for a IT business visits the Akihabara Crossfield is the place to be! Even if you're not able to enjoy Akihabara as a whole, the Crossfield has shops and resturants inside, as well as the conference rooms etc...

Now...Japan is also known for anime (Japanese animation) and Akihabara is also known as a otaku (Super anime fan) paradise...I'll leave that up to you to research...but I will say that the cafes are like none you've ever seen! lol
